Section 23: OPA Elections Subject: A Questionable Alliance Msg# 1116451

Currently looking at the STRs and ditches plus one other thing escaping my mind. The people in the group decide what is a priority.
One thing to keep in mind - no online group represents the majority will of 8440 or so association members. STR is a brand new item. It will be decided shortly, one way or the other. Far as I am concerned I'd like to see a referendum by section for a DR change to eliminate all STR under 30 days. Ditches/drainage have been a priority for a long time. The problem is association members do not want to pay the increase in the assessment required to accomplish what they want. For example, maybe the group could promote OPA spending $15-20 million to run a drain pipe down Beauchamp Road. Recently held discussion (group initiated) included how to get on committees and I see at least one person is now on committee. Several were just getting straight rejection letters including sorry we are going for someone in particular. I would love to see those rejection letters or emails. I was not aware the group is not open to all residents. If that is the case, it needs to change. I can see no one outside but there are several involved that do not live here. Colby doesn't live in OP. I agree with you - why would outsiders even want to participate. (waiting for comments on how and why the outsiders want to help all of us). Esther personally asking people to run for the Board when her husband plans to run seems to be as close to neutral as she can get on that point. I've seen no forced Agenda. Agendas can be subtle. I have watched folks with an agenda come and go in OP for over 30 years. Even so, when the group founder has publicly called the current board a dictatorship, and now says there is no agenda... well there is an agenda even if it has not been articulated to the group, and the creation of the group is one of the means to achieve the agenda. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Actually the group is issue oriented with representatives willing to bring discussion to the Board. Currently looking at the STRs and ditches plus one other thing escaping my mind. The people in the group decide what is a priority. Recently held discussion (group initiated) included how to get on committees and I see at least one person is now on committee. Several were just getting straight rejection letters including sorry we are going for someone in particular. I believe the number is in the 400s. I was not aware the group is not open to all residents. If that is the case, it needs to change. I can see no one outside but there are several involved that do not live here. There is also a push to get more people, any people, willing to run for the Board or get on committees they are interested in. I see nothing wrong with that. Esther personally asking people to run for the Board when her husband plans to run seems to be as close to neutral as she can get on that point. I've seen no forced Agenda. I watched all 70 odd minutes of your video. I think Colby can better speak to her involvement than I have seen represented. |
