This literature should neither be promoted nor diminished by the library just as other literature available to the community.
With that idea in mind, what's your view of this language -- quoting from the Worcester County Library announcement: "The library has created a Teen Reading Challenge on Beanstack and will use the grant money to provide prizes." Are these cash prizes?? Or free copies of some of those books?? Or something else?? Isn't this promotional?? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Libraries should be neutral reference and entertainment centers. They certainly should provide a large variety of reference materials for access by the community. They also, as I said, be neutral in their presentation of materials. If there is a need for literature of the nature described and promoted in the subject article, that literature should be in the stacks under the very same set of guidelines as all other literature, with zero library prejudice. This literature should neither be promoted nor diminished by the library just as other literature available to the community. |
