Section 4: General Subject: Polluted North Gate Pond? Msg# 1140725

Joe:
There has been water testing going on for some time by the ACT. Our committee asked for a more specific test be initiated last November to determine the origin of any pollution. We were looking to prove, or disprove the source was the resident Canada goose population. When we finally received a copy of that report months later we were surprised to find human waste in two ponds, one, the south pond at north gate was highly polluted. The ACT felt it was a bad test and did it again in December. What concerns me personally, as well as other members of our committee, is the lack of action and what would appear to be a case of the board sitting on these results. This north gate pond should have been roped off to public and pets and the cause of the human waste immediately investigated. According to my source if this is sewer related the costs to repair could be in the millions. I think what bothers me most is the board supporting the new spray irrigation project as a good thing for our environment while ignoring the potential real environmental disaster. Marty |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Hi Marty. I believe you are a member of the Environmental and Natural Assets Advisory Committee. When looking at committee minutes for any information about the flyway grass that geese do not eat, I came across some information related to possible polluted water in the North Gate Pond. Asking around I find there may be some issue with human waste. Apparently, there is some testing going on and paid for by OPA. Can you provide any info on what this is all about? From the July 2021 meeting: Water testing status. Ken had a meeting with John Viola and was told that OPA can’t disclose the results to our committee. Marty believes this kind of information is specifically covered by Title 11-B and should be available From March 24, 2021 meeting: Tom reported on the results of the recent water quality tests conducted by ACT at the north gate and Memorial ponds. The plan is to test again next month and to include the Route 90 pond From November 2020: The board had authorized the testing of the waters at our north and south gate ponds, we are awaiting test results |
