Whoever wrote the by-laws to not require the Treasurer to be an OPA director (and perhaps not even an OPA member, i.e. lot owner) has proven to be wise. Here is the irony.......... a Treasurer who is not a director can tell the President to "stick it." I would submit that you want that option in your Treasurer.
Of all the Officers, you want the Treasurer to be the person who can ferret out the numbers, challenge the assumptions, demand better information. Nobody on the board comes close to the fiduciary responsibility of the Treasurer. You want the Treasurer to be the person who, when making a request for information, the GM or Chief Accounting Officer stop what they are doing and get it. The last thing you want is your Treasurer relegated to emailing info@oceanpines.org. I for one hope that the new incoming President makes a declarative statement countermanding the asinine proclamation from the current President that led to Perrone's resignation. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: d) Treasurer. The Treasurer is the chief financial officer of the Association and shall perform all duties incident to the office of Treasurer and other duties assigned by the Board of Directors, and shall exercise oversight over: (1) the keeping of the complete books and records showing the financial condition of the Association and its departments; (2) the maintenance of a record of each member's account with the Association; (3) the depositing of all Association funds in the name of the Association in such banks or other depositories as approved by the Board of Directors; (4) the collecting and disbursing of the funds of the Association as prescribed by the Board of Directors; and (5) the preparation of an account of the financial condition of the Association, when requested. |
