Section 5: OPA Board Subject: 2022 Election Debacle Continues Msg# 1185055

It sounds to me that those in power do not want to know the truth simply because it could threaten their power.
Jack, the odds of any loss of power by the current majority are slim to none. However, it could be embarrassing to have a count of the number of lots that were not counted in the last election. We know with absolute certainty that not all lots submitted via paper ballots were counted. What we do not know, but could know, is the actual number of uncounted lots. Isn't it curious that certain political forces in the OPA community do not want association members to know how many lots were not counted, especially when control of OPA without the uncounted lots was decided by a razor-thin margin of 13 votes? Election results should be totally transparent, especially to the point of transparency regarding how many lot votes were not counted as a result of what was an unfortunate mistake by the prior election committee. That should be true regardless of the candidates and their political views. Hiding important facts about an election result is not something association members should expect, regardless of the candidates involved. Knowing how many lots were not counted can't change the number of votes for each candidate. While we can know how many lots were not counted, we can never know how those lots actually voted. If someone owned five lots and returned the paper ballot originally mailed to them, they had one lot counted. However, it is impossible to know who that owner of five lots picked on his ballot and thus the votes of four uncounted lots can never be determined for inclusion in the ballot counts. Why would there be any objection to doing the return envelope review to determine the actual number of uncounted ballots? Any objection would only be on political grounds. |
