If a do over was allowed my guess is that someone on the committee would confirm on the date of scheduled mailing that mailing had actually occurred.
No one is making mistakes intentionally, but perhaps you are rationalizing to some extent. It is also understandable to have empathy for the committee members. However, given the disaster last year, given the desire to restore confidence this year, given the concerns expressed early on about going to Washington State (concerns all ignored by the board and the committee), someone should have verified mailing status progress in the days leading up to the July 11 mailing date. Also, association members should read the by laws to see who is responsible for insuring prompt mailing. Ultimately, that responsibility lies with the OPA corporate Secretary, not the committee, it appears. Maybe staff should be more involved in some of this logistical stuff. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I emailed the OP elections committee and as a follow up left a voice message on the posted phone line after receiving my ballot on July 26. My concern was whether or not the remaining time was enough to get the completed ballot back to the contractor by the deadline. That same day I received a very insightful email and then a phone call from a committee member. I was thoroughly impressed with the timeliness and sincerity of the communications. I believe that the committee was diligent in its process and just didn't see the delayed mailing coming. If a do over was allowed my guess is that someone on the committee would confirm on the date of scheduled mailing that mailing had actually occurred. In the committee's defense (my words not the Committee's) I can see that based upon positive feedback about the contractor, contractor experience with these services, and specificity in the contract that it would be reasonable to rely on a professional doing what they were supposed to do. Of course now it's easy to say "you should have......". At the end of the day no one was satisfied with the development but I have confidence that the committee was and continues to look out for the OP Community's best interest. I appreciate the work of the Election Committee. Don Butt |
