January 1990 saw the most ice around here. It was the coldest long-term period locally in about 75 years with temperatures in zero range for weeks.
At one point the electricity went out, bringing a feeling of panic, but it was only off for a couple of hours. We skated on Manklin Creek. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Was that the same year the Isle of Wight froze over? I remember guys at the Pines Point Marina walking around the outside of their boats breaking up the ice.
