Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Fair Housing Act Violation? Msg# 1214909

I'm glad it was finally concluded that the Aquatics Committee proposal of an adult-themed evening at the Yacht Club where all were welcome including children was not discriminatory. The Aquatics Committee had it correct all along.
I agree that it's a GM decision on whether to have such an event or not based on economics. That's what we pay the GM to do. The first three reasons in Attorney Bright's Forum post make sense. The fourth one ---- "there is also a concern to some extent about liability issues arising from poolside and swimming-related alcohol consumption occurring in the evenings" ---- begs these questions: One, why is alcohol served at Family Fun Night not a similar concern? Two, why are liability issues on alcohol consumption in the evenings any different than during the daytime? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I like the reasoning that the board and management put into this decision. I think it's difficult to argue against their conclusion. |
