Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Racquet Center Budget Msg# 1219022

I believe Terry was taking proposed capital expenditures and inferring the membership fee should cover that. I'm sure you're not suggesting they should Joe.
Both tennis and pickle have $16,000 in capital costs for court maintenance to repair the cracks that have opened up. Faulty work by the contractor on the new courts? Tennis also has $21,000 for the annual resurfacing of the har tru courts and $2,500 for sprinkler maintenance in the operating budget. Part of why Tennis has higher operating costs than pickle and platform. Pickle revenues are usually covering their full depreciation line and contributing to the overall racquet center bottom line. Tennis is the drag on the budget. I'm not blaming tennis but if the kiosk concept I noted above were implemented costs for all three sports would go down a lot and operations would improve. Unfortunately tennis membership across their 10 membership categories is projected to go from 59 to 50 in the 2026 budget. Not what is was in your heyday Joe. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I listened to the racket center manager during the budget discussion. Correct me if I am wrong, but he said if the expenses for court maintenance were applied properly then pickleball fees would increase dramatically. Look, I've listened to pickleball players endlessly complain about percent increases. I have no sympathy. $100 a year is less than $2 a week. |
