A really nice guy. He and I would have a beer and lunch and talk occasionally during his tenure as president of the board. A position he really didn't want but that he soldiered through. We also played some platform tennis from time to time. Always a smile, even when he had to sell the house here and move back to LI for the specialized treatment he could get at the NYC cancer facilities where they deal still with 9/11 related casualties. I called him there a couple of times but unfortunately not lately
Tough news. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Past Board Member Tom Herrick Dies It is with deep sadness that New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James announces the line of duty death of retired Investigator Thomas K. Herrick. On Saturday, April 12, 2025, Investigator Herrick passed away from an illness resulting from his assignment in and around the World Trade Center site following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. His death is a solemn reminder of the lasting toll borne by those who responded selflessly in the aftermath of that tragic day. Investigator Herrick dedicated 26 years of honorable service to the New York State Police, retiring on August 19, 2009. He was last assigned to the Troop L Felony Warrant Squad, where he served with distinction. Investigator Herrick is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret “Meg” Herrick, and their three children—Thomas, Ryan, and Matthew. We extend our deepest condolences to the Herrick family, friends, and former colleagues during this difficult time. The New York State Police stands together in honoring Investigator Herrick’s service and sacrifice. |
