It is with deep sadness that New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James announces the line of duty death of retired Investigator Thomas K. Herrick.

On Saturday, April 12, 2025, Investigator Herrick passed away from an illness resulting from his assignment in and around the World Trade Center site following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. His death is a solemn reminder of the lasting toll borne by those who responded selflessly in the aftermath of that tragic day.

Investigator Herrick dedicated 26 years of honorable service to the New York State Police, retiring on August 19, 2009. He was last assigned to the Troop L Felony Warrant Squad, where he served with distinction.

Investigator Herrick is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret “Meg” Herrick, and their three children—Thomas, Ryan, and Matthew. We extend our deepest condolences to the Herrick family, friends, and former colleagues during this difficult time.
