Section 18: Worcester County Subject: Ellis Exit Interview Msg# 133700

I was at the Commissioners meeting during Ellis' exit interview. One of his comments was that during his tenure on the Planning Commission he felt the balance of power in the County began shifting from Ocean City to Ocean Pines, or words to that effect. True to a certain extent, but the influence of Ocean Pines on the overall commission will be limited unless commission members have intentions to run for state office. They would then need the votes in Ocean Pines, regardless of their home district. I've heard Bloxom may run for state office, as well as OPA's Stachurski. Ocean City produces tons of tax dollars but has few voters. The power of Ocean Pines could be most evident in the event of any county-wide referendums. If county-wide voting for commissioners had remained in effect there would have been a much more dramatic shift towards Ocean Pines. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Why didnt he do more to effect change while he was the right hand of a former commissioner? From what I can tell, Ed Ellis did his level best to effect change during his tenure on the Planning Commission. Whatever his relationship may have been with a former commissioner, however, that commissioner was only one of seven, and you've got to get the votes of four in order to effect change. |
