Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Community Center Contract Msg# 388205

Nanci, You cannot build that 29,000 sq ft building for $3.9 million. You're foolish if you think the STOP group has any intention of formulating a new community center referendum. If so, why don't they include an alternative in the petition? Their intention is to kill this project period. Ask yourself this - would Marty or his minions have started this petition if the proposed community center included an indoor pool and had a similar cost overrun? Doubtful - all you have to do is look at his "opposition" to the enclosed pool. Don't be duped into getting others to sign the petition. I predict STOP will get the number of signers. I predict the Board (on the advice of counsel) will vote to ignore the petition. Construction will continue all the while, money will continue to be spent and it will become too expensive to stop it. For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: tony, i think it can be done but we have to have the collective fortitude to go about getting a new referendum passed. the STOP group is doing all it can to collect enough signatures to stop what is now, seemingly, a "given". have you signed the STOP card? do you think the majority of the board would have the audacity to ignore STOP if they have the required number of no's. i have read that they could. barring that, it would have to be taken to court. sincerely, nanci phillips |
