Just about the same number as are having their hips replaced. But see, back then we just played. We, as I'm sure you did, went out for the day and came home in time for dinner. My mom never worried about me. I took off on my bike and just went out. Things sure have changed. I wouldn't let my girls out of my sight and I surely won't let my granddaughter off my porch without me being next to her. It's really awful though; I think there needs to be a certain amount of trust in other people. I always trusted people and was known to have never met a stranger. Nowadays, you need to teach kids not to talk to strangers. Anyway, boy did I go off the subject, progress is good when it comes to materials and technology and I'm glad kids don't have to play on concrete anymore. I don't know what high school gym floors these days are made of but when my youngest played basketball, those girls really banged themselves up pretty good on the hard floors. I wonder if those floors were over concrete. The school she was in was in Howard County and was built in the fifties or sixties. |
