Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra conductor Julien Benichou and the MSO welcome Maestro CLYDE MITCHELL to guest-conduct the orchestra s Holiday Concerts on December 2, 3 and 4, 2005. Noted for his nine years with the Vancouver, Canada, Symphony Orchestra and for many other engagements, Maestro Mitchell founded the outstanding North Vancouver Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra.
He has conducted and worked with distinguished ensembles all over Canada and in the U.S., Japan, Taiwan and Europe. Born in Florida and originally trained as a French Hornist, Maestro Mitchell is married to Sarah Jackson, piccolo and flute player with the prestigious Los Angeles Philharmonic, whose parents reside in Eden, MD, near Salisbury.
An infectious informality characterizes Clyde s style and approach. He sees himself as an Ambassador of music. He reaches out to orchestras and audiences alike to make them feel like family. He has chosen a friendly, rousing Holiday Program that will entertain and entrance listeners of all ages. Highlights include Leroy Anderson s A Christmas Festival, excerpts from Tchaikovsky s Nutcracker Suite, music from Handel s Messiah, and classics like Rudolph, Joy to the World, Greensleeves, and Jingle Bells.
The Holiday Concerts will also feature soprano Mary Anne Barcellona, a native of Chicago, IL, who has achieved world-class renown for her abilities. She has performed in numerous international venues. Typical reviews: Barcellona...is considered one of the most accomplished and versatile bel canto lyric sopranos. She cut a striking figure and sang with a natural ease and the experience of a singer who has a large and varied repertoire. One need only sit back and enjoy [her voice's] smooth and elegant resonance."
She will be singing O, Holy Night, White Christmas, Silent Night and other holiday favorites. Ms. Barcellona currently teaches Voice and Opera Workshop at Anne Arundel, MD Community College.
