Video: Pool Motion Passes
Start
The OPA Board on 6/14/2006 voted favorably on Reid Sterrett's motion to cover the Sports Core Pool. Sterrett, Cook, Stachurski, and Duffy voting YES. Venit and Kelley voting NO. Coleburn absent. The YES vote came in spite of staff numbers indicating a yearly loss of $49,000 on operations, and an $80,000+ per year loan payment to cover initial construction and be paid for by an assessment increase.

One might suppose this means OPA will proceed with covering the pool. Not so. Based on Sterrett's comments during discussion and after the meeting in talking with Duffy and Sterrett and Stachurski, they all said the motion did not authorize the acting GM to proceed with the pool enclosure, and that another vote would be taken at some subsequent date to actually approve the project.

Sterrett's motion, as submitted in writing prior to the meeting stated:

THEREFORE let it be resolved that I hereby move to construct a 4-season pool enclosure at the Sports Core Pool by accepting the quote of $929,000.00 from Structures Unlimited and thereby tasking OPA to proceed with member surveys and consultation with OPA staff to determine the best financing choice, what depreciation aspects to consider, and what membership/user fee structures and/or adjustments should be implemented with this project.

The above sure sounds like a go-ahead to me, but in the wacky world of OPA politics, one never knows
