10/31/2007 Getting to Know…Chamber President Ron Fisher On October 11 Ron Fisher, Executive Director of Peninsula Regional Primary Care was installed as president of the Ocean Pines Area Chamber of Commerce (OP Chamber). Ron has been a member of the chamber for seven years and served as a member of the board for three years. Ron also currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Worcester County Veterans Memorial at Ocean Pines. Ron moved to the Ocean Pines area about 10 years ago from Selins Grove, PA (about 60 miles north of Harrisburg) following retirement as Vice President of Operations and a 22 year career with Geisinger Heath Systems. Other positions and affiliations held over the years include past president of the Academy of Physicians Assistants, past president of United Way of Pennsylvania, the Elks and the American Legion. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965. Ron vacationed in the Ocean Pines area with his family for many years and already owned a vacation getaway here when he retired. His love of the area made the move an easy choice. His current position with PRMC developed after relocating and had nothing to do with the initial decision to move. Ron is now looking forward to another retirement from PRMC at the end of 2007, but will continue to represent their interests with the OP Chamber until the end of his term as president. Then, with his 65th birthday looming on the horizon in January 2008, he hopes to devote more time to fishing and handyman pursuits like carpentry and gardening he enjoys. Ron comments that he was involved with chambers of commerce in Pennsylvania and in his experience the Ocean Pines group is definitely one of the friendliest. He has nothing but praise for the staff and volunteer "Ambassadors," noting that the growth of the organization is directly tied to their making chamber functions enjoyable as well as productive. With regard to his term as president of the chamber Ron has set several goals, the first being to grow membership by 10 percent through active recruitment and retention of current members. He is also seeking to enhance educational opportunities for members, increase the visibility and involvement of the chamber with the community and seeks to foster greater involvement and cooperation with the Ocean Pines Association. Ron's family includes Shirley, his wife of 46 years, son Scott (45), daughter Myleah (44) and three grandchildren who visit here on a regular basis.
