For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The trees are rather sparse in the area where the building will be ...there are only two really large trees that will be affected.... Two trees? That entire area is peppered with large trees. can say that I feel MUCH.....MUCH BETTER after having seen the plan. You sure cave in easily, given you previous comments. Joe, I know the discussion has been about "an acre"...but when you look at the plan and stand in the space....there isn't much ON the acre. I suggest that you go over and get a copy. Mine is very, very dark, but I have been there with a good copy before me and the thing is not nearly as awful as I expected. The firehouse itself does not have a very large footprint so not many trees will have to go. The driveway and parking lot don't affect too much either. As you are facing the park, the driveway to the parking is on the left of the utility boxes near the road. There is one BIG tree at the back corner that could probably be saved ...if we fuss enough. To the right of the firehouse there is over 100 feet of space between the homes on Crows Nest Lane. There is a trail through there that is not affected. There is no need for any trees to come down over there. I am not sure what the perimeter of the building measures, but it is not so big. It looks like just enough room for the trucks ...and some rooms on the second floor. None of land designated goes back past the Pavillion and the concrete pad adjacent to it. That part of the park is not affected at all. The point is...we are talking about an acre, but it does not mean that all the trees on the acre will be destroyed. It is pretty close to the road and the trees in the front part are not as large as some further back. ONE big one will go... for sure. IF the builder is careful with his equipment, he could limit harm to the roots of trees that will stay. GO over there and get a copy of the plan and see for yourself. I want to know what you think. I didn't say I was thrilled. I am pleased and surprised that it does not look as bad as I thought it would. They will have lots of supervision from the "Tree Huggers." This is NOT my first time trying to save a park. If there are people watching, taking pictures, hanging around....it DOES make a difference. They will be much more careful if they know they are being scrutinized. Nancy
