Rick, I thought there was a big new engine that needed housing...in addition to what was there before. I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the workings of the OPVFD.....nada. All that I am reporting is the fact that the plan does not look nearly as invasive to the parkland as I imagined. The area is close to Ocean Parkway and does not extend back past the Pavillion. Go see for for yourself. I would like to hear what others think. I cannot debate the NEED for the building. I am ignorant of what the future will bring for this fire department. I hope that it will remain as a volunteer group. That seems to be changing in other areas of the state.If it does, there would be a need for a bunk area and kitchen. Nancy

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I am not sure what the perimeter of the building measures, but it is not so big. It looks like just enough room for the trucks ...and some rooms on the second floor. If what you say is correct, something is seriously wrong with this picture. The FD now occupies a space large enough for two engines. If I understand your comments correctly, the new FD building will also be large enough for only two engines but will also have sleeping quarters on the second floor. So what you're say is that part of WHP is being destroyed forever to allow the FD to build a building to allow volunteers to sleep. If that's correct, this is as bad as the CC fiasco perpetrated by the prior BOD. When you decide to build a new building you build for the future, you don't build to duplicate what you have now. No wonder at the BOD meeting when the FD representative was ask about needing a new FD building he appeared to hesitate and vacillate in his answer. |
