For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Certainly I do not expect everyone to agree with my choices. However, I do expect association members to vote for individuals based on the totality of their potential contributions to the board going forward, and not just some single nebulous concern over assessments. Joe Joe, We got a large increase in assessments because former BoDs did not raise them gradually as they should have done. They spent and spent money foolishly and did nothing to raise more money. The "Stachurski Boards" took on new projects and left our buildings to fall apart. 1.They tried to destroy the Swim and Racquet Club with a marina which would have taken all parkland, 2. they wanted to build an expensive community center and let one man ...who was not qualified to do so....be the sole manager of the project, and if that were not enough....3. at the same time decided to cover out biggest swimming pool. Meanwhile the underpinnings of the Yacht Club were rotting, the Community Center was literally falling down, and the Country Club was ..and is....just "sitting there" not knowing what it "is". I think assessments need to be raised gradually, and have always said so, but we need to take care of our business before we go out and spend money on new things. I guess I will not get over the GPS devices on the golf carts. They give the starter info on where the groups are on the course. We could have lived without them! If the BoD is dominated by golfers, we will always be putting money there first...I fear.We need to get more people playing golf ...and then spend the money that new players will bring in. If people don't want to play golf...then we need to rethink having the course. I want Ocean Pines to be a place that we can all afford to live. Everyone in OP does not have a lot of money. I know we have lost about 40% of the money we had a couple of years ago, and we never had a lot to start with. I hope those who get elected will be sympathetic to the needs of all members of the association. Having said all this, I am very happy that Marty, Bill, and The Group managed to work it out so we could use the old CH site. I am sure the building will be a good one and I appreciate all the tiime and energy they have put in on it. We owe them a lot for all the work that they have done and the money they have saved the association. Nancy
