From:MarkVenit Charlie, If you're going to quote me, at least do it acurately. Maybe you ought to listent to a transcript. Hi Mark, Pardon me for butting right in, but I think Charlie was referring to the Town Meeting at the Yacht Club and not the Board Meeting. The comment was made upon seeing the badges that many were wearing that night and the anti-marina signs that had been placed around the room. It was said in the back of the room during Atlantic's presentation. ( which most of us were hearing for the SECOND time! ) * Many of the people wearing badges were NOT nimbys and I have it on very good authority that the person who made all the signs lives no where NEAR the marina. .. vbg... The issuse is not just about what close property owners feel. It is about the paving of a lovely park area and increasing traffic on a very narrow road where many people walk. When there are swim meets, things get very tight in that area. I am glad that some attention is being paid to the improvement of what I personally consider to be the "Lovliest Spot" in all Ocean PInes. With all that lumber storage sitting in the parking lot for ages and ages, it has looked much like a lumber yard! The "Amy Ross" is long gone and even though I have fond memories of trips on a paddle wheel boat, her home should be used for docks. You can rebuild the docks and add to the space without disrupting the whole place and upsetting everyone. The project is just too large and will come no where close to solving the "Dock Problem". There are people who have docks with no boats at their homes and might consider renting them out, and also there are folks who are paying for dock space and don't have a boat. If you count up all those spaces, I wonder what the number would be? Has anyone done that? It doesn't seem fair that people are just holding spaces when others need them. How can that problem be solved? This is, of course, just my opinion. Wanted to clear up the nimby issue. * PS: Next time there is an issue that takes a lot of time to present and even more time for the citizen to digest, could the presentation be put on Channel 78 and so that folks could watch it several times before coming to a meeting? Everyone would be well informed and come ready to discuss the issue. By the time a long presentation is finished, half the people have gone home and the rest are sitting there with eyes glazed over and wanting to go home. Nancy Weber |
