Ted: "It is estimated that we will see savings in excess of 20% in utility costs in the new building vs the current structure simply because of the modern construction materials and efficency of the HVAC systems" Red herring alert! According to our 2012 audited statement the total cost of utilities, gas, oil, propane and electricity, at the Yacht Club in 2011-2012 was $87,397. So, by investing $4,300,000.00 we will save approximately 20% of that number, or a savings of $17,479.40. Shut the front door! You and I have agreed that the best way to cut utility costs is to close the facility in the off season. Marty |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Rosalind, 1. why no solar panels? if not in the whole project why not light the parking lots with solar? no need to pay electric bills when solar can be or should be incorporated in the plans. We looked at Geothermal as the best option to reduce utility costs. However, the cost payback did not justify the expense. It is estimated that we will see savings in excess of 20% in utility costs in the new building vs the current structure simply because of the modern construction materials and efficency of the HVAC systems. 2. why duplicate what already exists - only larger? The building is 2,000+/- SF larger but includes the Harbor Masters Office which is currently in a stand alone building and has a storage space (1100 SF) whch is not heated or cooled. The layout and efficency is much better than the current structure. 3. Why no health club? Why was not a health club considered for the community center? a lost opportunity to generte income! It was discussed in many meetings of the Ten Year Task Force. Obviously, it is not a part nor should it be of the YC. As far as the Community Center, there was no room. Remember the political climate at that time. Failed previous referendum, complaints about the new building being larger than the old one, etc. Now people tell me the building is too small! You can't win! 4. Will the new yacht club be wired for internet service? Dont believe internet wiring ever considered for community center, core pool or ya Yes, just like the current YC has internet and the Community Center has internet wiring. Ted |
