Tom, I would not impune any member of the committee. There was one person in the room who should have taken the time to educate the members right on the spot; the Board Liaison. He is fully aware of the HOA statute and could probably quote the eight reasons for closed meetings as well as the requirement for public comment from memory.
At the same time, however, how would you propose the committee discuss and formulate the questions to be asked spontaniously of the board candidates at the public meeting? Should it be in open session where a member or press could publish the questions in advance? Worse yet would be if the questions were slipped to one or two favored canidates and not all of them. If members or the press are allowed to observe the director vote count, how will you keep the winners names under wraps until the annual meeting the next day? The HOA statutes are designed to prevent the worst offenses, but they must be tempered with a measure common sense in situations that are not fully defined. Bill Z |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe I rhink its a mattet of those folks attitude. I don't think any of them specifically had in mind any instructions they may have been given by the BOD. More likely they were not given any guidance at all. But they would sense the attitude, the underlying attitudes of leadership. How the GM answers residents question reflects a negative attitude. He "knows it all" and belittles questioners. The BOD pres. and "unofficial" treasurer have that same type attitude. That anti-resident attitude was strongly held by the person(s) making those "off the wall" oulandish comments to you. Thats why i'm favoring Roland's views, and have always supported Marty. Both respect members and their views, and exercise independence in their thinking. Others on BOD have the "King does no wrong" attitude and blindly follow whatever's being dealt from "above" Joe I strongly urge you to make public WHO made those comments, (lacking an apology.) PS to Bill Z I'd not impune all members of the committee. Some had made no comments and did not enter the "fray" |
