For many many years my friends and I hunted small game on farmland outside of Hanover, PA. One year we went out Friday evening as usual for the Saturday opening day and when we got to the farmland we always hunted we found a housing development, apartments and a shopping center. Nothing ever stays the same. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: It is best to let the residents decide by referendum. For many, it is not worth the millions we are pouring into it. Al, You can easily guess the direction of my sentiments. I have seen no data to support the idea that any of the amenities adds to our home value versus a similar home in a well kept development, or home in the county in a similar setting, without amenities in this area. Of course the home in the country, surrounded by open space has the added advantage of avoiding the costs of mounting losses and financial burdens, such as a golf course in decline. BUT, in neither a country setting, or adjacent to a golf course, is there any guarantee that surroundings won't someday be changing. Many Many golf courses have been going out of business throughout the country, thus changing the suroundings for adjacent homeowners. And you can often hear of examples where land in country settings is being developed. The golf course on Beauchamp Rd is now out of business, so who knows what's going in there. The point is there are no guarantees that suroundings won't ever change. Tom |
