Section 5: OPA Board Subject: COPE Golf Petition? Msg# 879597

I believe it is about money and not having open space. I would bet the same people complaining about the cost of the golf course would rarely if ever use the open space. Just an opinion, no basis in facts. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Regarding a homeowners referendum....yes I suppose I could accept that....but only after some legitimate effort to do a comprehensive study of the long term consequences and costs of converting the asset to alternative use. I have no problem with the board doing what you suggest above. However, the board cannot control the ability of association members to take the issue to referendum at any time via petition. If that open space is not properly maintained the homes surrounding the golf course will surely become less desire able and potentially the entire community as well. The same applies to all OPA commonly owned properties. well beyond the presumed immediate favorable impact to the annual assessment. For many association members the issue of converting the course to open space is more than just about money. It is about making the area accessible and useable to a far greater percentage of association members, and providing an open space amenity that would increase property values and make the community much more desirable to a greater percentage of potential home purchasers. |
