The entrance is a tiny path between Nanci's house and her neighbors.
For those of us on the forum that have been reading post the last few days about this nice park, could you or someone else maybe give directions and or the address of Nanci's house so maybe some of us could visit the park. Robert Hi Robert, There are 5 platted entrances to Wood Duck Park. I have a map of it, and probably Joe does also, since there was a big flap over the "right to use the park" some years back. The access by "Nanci's House" is NOT the one to use. There is no place to park and there is barely room to walk through, because of the way the houses are built. ( The original owner of one house was allowed by ARC to turn her house for a better view of the water, and you are practically in the house when you walk by. ) It is on Heron Isle Court #22 and #26 I have used Wood Duck Park quite a lot for launching kayaks over the years. Here is how to get there conveniently: 1. Go into Wood Duck 1 and immediately turn right. Look to the left and you can see down to the water. Many home owners seems to have spread their yards over into the common space at that part of the park. There used to be a large sign there....but as Joe says...it is gone. 2. Proceed to the corner ....Golden Eye ...turn left and go to the end of the street where you will see an empty lot. You can park in the front of that lot without impeding any comings and goings in the circle. There is room for a couple of cars. The right of way to the park....which used to have a very nice sign.... is just to the left of #21. There is a big concrete driveway that is partly on the entrance to the park, so you just have to walk over it. The space is 5 ft. wide and you can walk through it easily as no one is supposed to plant anything to impede access. If they have done so.....it should be reported to OPA. I never had any problems going through there. The former owners were never rude to me and my friends. We carried our kayaks out, and did not disturb the grass in any way. We would carry one kayak and then go back and get the other one....or two.( I have wheels now so wouldn't have to do that.) As Joe posted, there were nice little signs that Mr. Ferguson, the GM.. had made to mark the access spots, but they have disappeared. That does not mean that there is no acess. If you want to use the park regularly, it would be nice to try and introduce yourself to the present owners if they are available. That is what I did ....and all was just fine. I have not been there this year, so have not met the new owners. I imagine that some people who come through there have been less than respectful, and that is why the signs were taken down. There are two other access spots about halfway up the park, but I think you are mainly interested in getting to the water....so it doesn't matter where they are. They are for the neighbors up that way. It is a lovely area, quite wide, and belongs to all of us. There were some benches not too far from the water and that is pleasant. It can get really mushy out in the middle after a lot of rain, so expect that. I hope this helps you. Go check it out, and see what a lovely spot it is. It puts you in a nice part of the water where you will not get a lot of speeding boats. There is a No Wake sign down to the right which leads you to Manklin Creek....a mostly placid place .......unless Joe Reynolds starts kicking up his heels. Nancy |
