Almost all of the neighbors were nice about us dropping off our kayak on the road near the easement, then parking our car up at the top of the court and then coming back to carry the kayak to the water...then reversing the whole procedure when we returned. Only one person gave us the "stink eye" when we did this. As you can see from my description of dropping off and then finding parking, this wasn't the easiest place to launch, so we haven't used it in a few years. However, Manklin is a great place to kayak and I am saddened to hear that the easement markings have been removed. They should be put back and the park opened to all. Vivian
Hi Vivian, See my post to Robert Barrier....about five before this one. I am not sure where you have been parking. I never had any trouble on Golden Eye because there is an empty lot very close to the easement to the left of # 21. We would just take one kayak out of the car and carry it out to the water, and come back and get the other one. There was no need to move the car. I happened to see the owners of that house outside just after we started going there, introduced myself, and told them that we would always be careful not to ever drag the boats etc. and everything was ok. The did know that we had the right to be there. All the drama that took place over the kayakers using the area was really the fault of the GM at the time. We had asked him to help us find places to put in our boats. I guess he had never been kayaking and would not attempt to understand what we were tryng to tell him. He kept using the word DEVELOPMENT every time kayaking was mentioned. DEVELOPMENT is a word that should not be used in the same sentence as KAYAKING. I can't really blame the Wood Duck Park neighbors for getting upset. Mr. Ferguson started drawing up a grand plan to get people in and out of the park, and then there was talk of a dock....which we did not want or need. All we wanted was a path to walk through, some firm sand where we could sit down on our fannies, and scoot into the water! We knew that the easements were there, and we had every right to use them. When the dust settled, Mr. Ferguson had some attractive little signs made.....Joe showed the picture of one.....and placed them at every easement. True....there is not a perfect parking solution, but hordes of folks do not show up at the same time....so it is possible to make do with the situation. I guess it is time to ask to have the signs replaced....at the very least...the one at the most convenient spot. Wood Duck Park is really a lovely place and everyone...boater or not... has the right to use it. Just because the signs are not there does NOT mean that the easement cannot be used. They are platted. We just need to let people know where they are. I am only speaking of the one on Golden Eye... closest to the water because it is convenient if you have a boat. Nancy |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: We also used Woodduck for launching our kayaks. It was not always an easy task as some of the homes that border the easements had shrubs that were very close to the easements. We were always careful of their landscaping as we carried our kayak in and out. It's actually a great place to put in for kayakers. Almost all of the neighbors were nice about us dropping off our kayak on the road near the easement, then parking our car up at the top of the court and then coming back to carry the kayak to the water...then reversing the whole procedure when we returned. Only one person gave us the "stink eye" when we did this.
