I always liked them and would have loved to have had a Golden Hawk or after they merged with Packard a Packard Golden Hawk with the supercharged V-8 that topped out at 160 MPH. I tried to make a deal for an Avanti in 1962 but the dealer wouldn't give me anything for my trade, they were a neat car and if I remember correctly they made them for a number of years up in Canada after Studebaker went out of business. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I found out that they built over half of the trucks used in WW II Bob, I believe most of those trucks went to Russia. I'm a Studebaker guy. As a child growing up on Bel Air road in the 50s I would attend the Sat. matinees at the Earl theatre then walk down Bel Air road a block into Fulker Motors and sit in the Studes in the showroom. How many folks know that in the early 60s Studebaker dealerships were where one went to purchase a Mercedes Benz? The Stude designers even put Mercedes like grills on the Larks to emulate them. We all know how that turned out. |
