Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Stevens Shatters His Board Majority Msg# 912979

I know this may not be realistic, but I would rather that the other three at least be heard.
They are heard. Every motion has a discussion time prior to a vote. My point is the majority should not get involved to a great degree in arguing with themselves or the minority. Certainly some info may come out during discussion that could prompt a change of vote. However, anyone who attends board meetings on a regular basis knows there is rarely a time when some light-bulb information is provided and everyone says, "Oh. I never thought of that." |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Thus, one board member could call three other board members individually and ask their support for some motion. If that support was granted, there would not be much point in any of the four getting into arguments with the other three when the motion was made and under discussion at the meeting. This sort of sounds like "Survivor." Who gets voted off the island? I know this may not be realistic, but I would rather that the other three at least be heard. How about some brainstorming and consensus seeking. At least listen to all ideas and opinions and get others to buy into your plan. Complex problems have more than two possible solutions and the best of several solutions could possibly be combined to best satisify everyone and best meet the needs of the community. |
