I can't remember ever seeing wild Atlantic salmon at the supermarket. I usually buy at ShopRite where the fish guys know me or Kings occasionally. Once in a blue moon Whole Foods. I usually buy frozen wild Coho or Norwegian farm raised. Either one is a regular staple at our dinner table.
I see the cod; I like cod; but I am aware of the problems that fish faces and rarely buy it. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The NYC types will not eat cod, sword, West Coast salmon Perhaps not unreasonable but I'd need to look more closely at population studies. You didn't mention Atlantic salmon but they have been in bad shape for a long time. Can you still purchase wild Atlantic salmon? Cod? Big problems. From the Boston Globe, August 2014: The cod population in the Gulf of Maine is plummeting more steeply than previously thought, according a new assessment by the federal agency that monitors the fishing industry. Underwater surveys conducted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration estimated that the iconic species has dwindled to as little as 3 percent of what it would take to sustain a healthy population. That’s down from between 13 and 18 percent in the last assessment, completed in 2011. |
