Maybe its time the Board conducts a sample of the members and actually ask them what it is they want from the Pines, in way of amenities, and see what comes back.
I would not advocate a sampling, rather a full membership vote. It would cost about $12,000 to mail a ballot to all association members. So, OPA could have a referendum asking if the membership desired to continue operating the golf course. This then brings up another issue, what to do with the land, for example. I'd support a park, but then this has maintenance costs. I'm unalterably opposed to selling any OPA land. Nothing is ever simple. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Assuming "near perfect" management came to Ocean Pines, I would expect to see relatively little change in the assessment or the quality of life. I do agree with your observations however using the $10,000,000 figure divided by approximately 8800 home owners equals $1136.00...what home owner or family in the Pines would decline their pro-rata share of this level of mismanagement? It is indeed a nice community but still advocate for "good governance." If $10 million has gone down a rabbit hole, that we know about, how much more has disappeared that we don't know about? Just a thought! Maybe its time the Board conducts a sample of the members and actually ask them what it is they want from the Pines, in way of amenities, and see what comes back. The technology exists to do this at a modest cost and I suspect the results could be surprising. |
