Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Cordwell on Golf Msg# 915717

Hello R. Kass,
"I don't think a sitting member should publicly ridicule the BOD. IMHO Cordwell is temperamentally unsuited for the job." IMNSHO, I couldn't agree with you more. I'm not sure if it matters legally whether Landscapes Unlimited (LU) reports directly to the Board or GM, but logically LU should report to the GM who should regularly report to the Board. If anyone attended the golf meeting, they would have heard Mark Mattingly explain in extensive detail what LU would do and why and how they would go about it. If all the contract negotiators do is repeat Mark Mattingly's words at the golf meeting LU is locked in. There is no wiggle room. I think this is one reason the Board decided to go with LU. By taking LU's approach, the golf operation will become an amenity again not a commodity as BCG was heading. It means the golf counsel will grow, as will more play from OP residents which is the way the golf amenity was intended. If they don't the GM and board have all the ammunition they require to hold their hands to the fire and get things done as the contract requires. A final note. To my knowledge the only person in OP land with first hand exposure to a LU golf course in near by Virginia, gave them rave reviews not only on course maintenance and appearance but also on friendliness, cooperation, and a willingness to make your golf experience a pleasant memory. For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Finally there is this juicy item from Director Bill Cordwell in the Bayside Gazette: “[Landscapes] has said they would report directly to Stevens and the board instead of to the general manager,” Cordwell said. “I believe that is a violation of our by-laws, as the general manager is tasked with running the day-to-day operations, not the board. After seeing how screwed up this process was, this board shouldn't be running the day-to-day operations of a snowball stand.” I don't think a sitting member should publicly ridicule the BOD. IMHO Cordwell is tempermentally unsuited for the job. And no way is it a violation of the by-laws. |
