A state trooper in NY or NJ was killed a week or so ago when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer, went off the road and hit a tree. And these are guys who are schooled in defensive driving techniques. If in doubt and if you can control your first instincts, stay the course and hit the animal. Not the car driving next to you. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: For what it's worth troopers in PA are taught if an animal jumps out in front of them they should hit the animal and NOT swerve to avoid it as in most cases that can result in a much more serious accident. People have been killed when they swerved to miss a squirrel. |
