A hearing aid and a tax free $150 a month pension??? I sure hope that's need based. As a taxpayer (and veteran), that makes me cringe.
As to the rest, since I am thankfully able to bear the cost and insurance of going private, I'd rather leave those services for those less fortunate. The VA has had some well publicized troubles in the past serving the veteran population. I can't believe that they have an endless supply of doctors and staff to meet the demand as it is. I know that there are many who disagree with me, as I have had these conversations in the past. Years ago, I gave up my subscription to one of those military officers magazines because all they seem to be about was more and more benefits. I think the active duty, especially the lower grades deserve more support than they ever seem to get and the excuse always seems to be budgetary. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: They will also do a full panel of blood work that you can go over with a VA doctor and get a copy so you can discuss with your own doctor. They also do podiatry and vision checks, if they issue you hearing aids you also get a monthly TAX FREE pension of about $150 a month. I have arthritic knees so they give me cortisone shots in both my knees ever four months, all free of charge. You should look into it. |
