Maybe we should also appoint representatives to the Budget and Finance Committee with those who have no background in finance.
I would have no problem with that at all. I suppose it depends on what is meant by background in finance. Common sense, decent education, perhaps business experience are more important in my view when it comes to reviewing the GMs budget for the board. The goal of LU is to make the course more profitable, increase membership, and set new policy to encourage association members to play the course that they own instead of playing elsewhere. Those experienced in golf would have best represented the Board in making that happen. Again, I have to respectfully disagree to a certain extent. These appointments had nothing to do with golf. They were purely political in nature. Also, I believe two of the three appointed are golfers. From a non-political standpoint, what is the difference between Dave Stevens, Tom Terry, and Jack Collins AND Tom Terry, Pat Renaud, and Bill Cordwell? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Frank, "Why would the president of the B of D appoint as a go between members of the Board who are not golfers and were opposed to LU from the get go?" I am still scratching my head on this one although they only needed one more vote for a majority as all three would obviously vote for themselves. This misguided line of reasoning is equivalent as appointing board representatives that do not frequent restaurants, nor have any restaurant experience at all, to represent the board in making our Yacht Club profitable. Maybe we should also appoint representatives to the Budget and Finance Committee with those who have no background in finance. The goal of LU is to make the course more profitable, increase membership, and set new policy to encourage association members to play the course that they own instead of playing elsewhere. Those experienced in golf would have best represented the Board in making that happen. I, also, belong to two outside groups that play elsewhere (although I have been an afternoon member at Ocean Pines since the day I moved here) and not in Ocean Pines, even though over 90% of them live here in the Pines. Most were also prior members here and it is very difficult to convince them to return with the current pricing policies put in place. As a consequence, because of friendships established, I too, unfortunately, play most of my golf at our surrounding competing golf courses. I will be happy to speak to you and listen to your ideas and input regarding these issues. I am certainly not one to patronize as I am interested in doing what is best for our association. I will reach out to you shortly. Thank you again for your interest. Tom Herrick |
