Not sure I understand what makes OP a difficult course .... Minimal water hazards ... No long rough or links grasses...no hills...no tough carries ... I am only at best a hacker but one of the reasons I like playing OP is that there is not a lot of trouble out there...one almost has to hit it OB to have an unplayable lie...sure there are a couple of long holes but there are on any regulation golf course... | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: So the OP golf course is just way to hard for the great majority of golfers playing on it and they are happier at other courses. And maybe that's one of the reasons the memberships have dropped off so much. Years ago when we moved here and golf was showing large losses I spoke with a lot of golfers to try and find out what might be the reason for the decline in play. [ I am not a golfer]. At the time Pine Shores North was open with their famous "Buy a hot dog, get a free round of golf" promotion, and attracted many Ocean Piners. I learned that, while the price was certainly part of the attraction, privately several told me that OP was just too difficult a course for them. I believe the average age of our golf membership is over 70 so that may be understandable. The other problems at the time [pre Casper] were a lack of welcoming, cart issues and some golfers playing a system that got them favorable tee times every week to the exclusion of others. That last issue was always denied UNTIL a new computer system was installed and then I was told that does not happen anymore...implying that it did happen formerly. Personally I don't see anything saving golf other than my last man standing option where OPA outlasts all the other courses in the area using property owners monies to stay in the game until then. |
