RE "the board needs to calm down the gm" . . . sure, but what about the damage he's already caused. in an earlier post the java bay café was mentioned, a fiasco that basically led to the firing of reinhart (it's bob's way or the highway.) and this new 5 mil monument has been a comedy of errors, mistake after mistake, plus it's designed primarily to service banquet guests, not residents. that building is simply a product of the gm's grandiose 'vision'. the 'final yacht clubs report' posted on the OPA site admits to error after error with the planning, design, permitting, and construction process and the report concludes with the audacious statement that he (BT) learned from the mistakes and will do better next time!
and speaking of permitting, who the heck signed off on, and agreed to, the counties requirement that seating which has been included in the parking space calculation would not be permitted to be relocated when not being used (ie pool seating, after the pool closes). said table seating could be moved onto the veranda on a busy summer weekend nite for cocktail service rather than setting up junkyard furniture as we do now. (I contacted bertino inquiring about where this 'agreement' originated and who in OP approved it, but did not get a reply.) BT has illustrated an alarming ineptness when it comes to business sense, and to let him spend anymore large sums of our money on anything but infrastructure - - and amenities that are truly in need of repair - - would be a big mistake. steve lind |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Everyone could agree that the Beach Club bathrooms need to be addressed but the issue gets caught up in whether we will build a multi story parking garage. OPA can suggest building a multimillion facility on 589 for a new police, fire and admin building but can't decide what to do with the Country Club which is a moldy embarrassing facility. Jack, all this is driven by the GM; you can make book on it. When Tom Terry turned Pat Renaud, OPA members were sold out. The GM is only interested in big-time, big-cost projects that make the headlines. In the end, it is the fault of the board. The board needs to calm down the GM and get back to taking good care of what we have rather than trying to rebuild all of OP in some grandiose image and likeness desired by this GM. |
