Joe,
I did indeed follow how things transpired and you will note that I made no inference that Tom Herrick's motion passed. See my response to a post from Ed Moran. I note that there was a mention of a safety issue with the current orientation of the playground, although no details of the issue were stated. If there is indeed a safety issue, the question I would ask is, would repairs to the equipment and the addition of a fence address the noted safety issues. Of course, if we took that arguably reasonable and fiscally responsible course of action, the outcome could derail the overall "master plan" and the associated enormous expense that some of the board is intent on doing. It seems to me, regardless of how well delivered and persuasive Tom Terry presented his argument that it was "about the children", what was passed by the board was phase one of the entire Manklin Creek project. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it. Doug Parks |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I thought Tom Herrick's motion was not only practical but perhaps the most cost effective manner in which to address the issue. In my opinion, what's wrong with moving the playground, bringing it up to safety specs, re-purposing 2 tennis courts for pickleball, building 2 platform tennis courts and calling it a day with the intent of reassessing the needs in 12-15 months? Did you actually follow how all this transpired? Herrick's initial amendment to Terry's motion did not pass. His proposal was a good idea, as you suggest.... but again, it did not pass. Terry's motion is what passed, and Terry obtained exactly what he wanted -- the nose under the tent to lay the groundwork for future installation of the entire Manklin Meadows project. There is no need to MOVE the playground as Terry's motion provides. There is no NEED to do any reworking of the community gardens as Terry's motion provides. This work is only required if the intent is to eventually complete the Manklin Meadows project master plan.... and this is the work today approved by the board. Terry succeeded in setting the chessboard to his liking. Herrick's passed motion was after the fact, and simply one instructing the GM to look into something. In the end Terry even manipulated the language of Herrick's motion. There is not even a timeline set for the GM to get back to the board. Terry played the board like a maestro. |
