For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: BoD Special Meeting Follow-Up: First, I was wrong to imply Director Terry was anything but working for the greater good. I believe he was motivated by racquet sports enthusiasts waiting 5 years to have their concerns met. Second, the "Manklin Creek Park Project" which raised all the hoopla is mostly dead, with exceptions regarding the the play equipment, parking lot, fence AND final destination of the play equipment. To settle the Pickleball concerns existing courts will be revamped in all new proposals (excellent compromise!). Below are my reactions: I still do not support the $150,000 or so budget that does not include the safety ground cover (the rubber asphalt looking stuff is safest & expensive). I do appreciate the time invested over 5 years to help the racquet sports enthusiasts. I also agree 5 years is too long to wait for upgrades & changes. This meeting proved, to me, that the scope of work for repairing the playground, utilizing existing racquet courts to meet the Pickleball player desires, resurfacing the parking lot & building a fence is still in debate. Pointing out, yet again, a major issue in the OPA bidding process. Whether it be Bob Thompson & our facility manager not putting together a complete, detailed & accurate request for bids OR our Board relying too heavily on the staff to just get estimates, I do not know. What I do see as a pattern is the OPA Board & staff relying too heavily on contractors to fully design & build the projects. I do hope the Board will consider ALL sides of the established project & associated studies necessary for ALL expenditures (like business plans for things like a Food Truck or a revision of the Master Plan every 3-5 years). However, with all the bids, for all the work, not in hand. The last minute meeting was doomed from the start without hard numbers. Additional concerns are without an agreed upon specific scope of work and are at the mercy of the above identified issues. I am reassured, as I hope all of you are, that most of the Directors are there for the greater good. Yes, there are some big fish, small pond egos. Yes, there is some hostility by Directors & residents. AND, Yes, I helped fuel some hostility by being pissed at the confusing process & lack of transparency by the Board. I also need to brush-up on parliamentary procedure to be a better community member. My mumbling, I am sorry, I did not think I could be heard. I did deserve to be called out. I did not deserve a personal attack by one Director. But hey, the Director in question did threaten another with physical violence, on record. Some frustrations were running high, so be it. SUMMARY:I feel the three biggest obstacles to this BoD are: 1) bid requests & defined scope of work 2) transparency: 3) Egos Finally, I wish to, again, apologize to the Board & fellow residents for not following procedure in the meeting. And, personally to Tom Terry. |
