Another high hurdle is the fact that most of the really beautiful mail pavilions in Ocean Pines are maintained and financially supported bythe section in which they are located.
The fact that a modernization project is in the works is awesome. And yes, technically funding for these projects would be a capital expense. The Parke has a mail pavilion with 518 mail boxes. We maintain the building and repair broken mail boxes using general maintenance dollars. The USPS replaces broken locks only. There is a Replacement Reserve line item to replace all mail boxes in year 30 at a cost of $41K. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Tom: The Environment & Natural Assets Advisory is working on a plan for just such a project. We picked one particular mail box center to draw up a prototype. I am currently drawing a basic pavilion in order to price labor and material. We will also try to budget for ongoing maintenance of these common areas. When complete our plan is to present our findings to the board to try to include in the next budget. One problem, technically, I think we are talking new capital and not replacement reserves. Another high hurdle is the fact that most of the really beautiful mail pavilions in Ocean Pines are maintained and financially supported bythe section in which they are located. Marty |
