Forget the USPS. With millions in reserve, it'a time for OPA to develop a plan to systematically replace those mailbox stations and place them under covered pavilions, similar to the one you see in Mumford's Landing. Who would object to this modernization effort? Presently, those mailbox stactions are an eyesore. I have a construction background and I would gladly head up an engineering Task Force to study this topic. Anyone out there with me? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: This is an eyesore and should be addressed. I assume it is a usps issue? The post office box support posts in this condition are certainly an eyesore. Myself and several others in the Community have spoken directly to the postmaster at Ocean Pines. They acknowledge it is their responsibility but they tend to deflect lack of action to Baltimore where their request apparently goes into the Bureaucratic black hole so we end up with boxes either bolted together or held up with a 2X6. Some folks have actually had to retrieve their mail from a box that was laying on the ground since the support post rusted away. I would like our Board to be more proactive on this issue and at least draft a letter to the PO expressing the Communities concern. That should take all of 20 minutes and would provide some weight behind the individual residents complaints. If that does not work the next step would be to follow up with one or more of our political leaders that represent our area. As I have said a hundred times in the past, our Boards [most of them]seem to get caught up in other issues they deem to be more important so often the appearance ones get left in the dust. This one has become somewhat of a campaign issue [like the bridges in the last election] so perhaps there will be a similar follow up and we can finally get the posts replaced. Let's hope so. |
