Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Casino Funds History Msg# 1009937

Thanks for setting the record straight on this, Joe, and for providing the history lesson.
I actually had watched the video of the 3/20 County Commissioners meeting online, and paid close attention to their discussion on the topic of casino funds at that meeting. So while watching the video from last Thursday's BOD meeting, I knew immediately that Director Jacobs references to the possibility OPA may lose its portion of the casino funds were way off base. That was not ever suggested or alluded to whatsoever in the discussion the Commissioners had on the topic. I'm not sure what newspaper article it was that Director Jacobs was referring to, but it was either factually incorrect, or perhaps more likely was simply misinterpreted. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Thanks Slobodan. OPA should obtain a copy of the 2009 legislation to keep for reference. At this point the most important thing for the board to know is that contrary to what Director Jacobs said, the County cannot take away our money. OPA’s impact funds can only be changed or eliminated by an act of the Maryland Legislature. .... and also the money can only be spent on public infrastructure. |
