I didn't realize that the Impala nameplate went all the way back to '54.
I had a '50 Chevy two door. My brother and I took out the 6 and put in a Ford 8 cylinder engine. Then we put in a Buick 8 which blew the transmission so we put in a Caddy LaSalle transmission. All that power then blew out the rear end and after we replaced that the drive shaft dropped on to the ground as I shifted into first after paying the 25 cent toll coming out of the Queens MidTown tunnel. The toll taker, remarking on the loud bang said, "I think that was you". "Those were the days my friend.." |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I certainly can't top any of the guy's car stories but my first car, yes, girls had them too, was a cherry red 1964 Chevrolet Impala two-door car. My parents gave it to me for high school graduation so I would have transportation to drive to school to become a radiogical technician. I loved that car. I would turn on the radio and drive it to school each day. This car gave me the freedoom to go anywhere I wanted to before going home. I would hang out with friends and go shopping. Sometimes I would run an errand for my mother. On the weekends, if I didn't have a date, I would pick up friends and we would go to Bob's Big Boy for hamburgers and strawberry pie. Hangout and meet boys! If none of our high school friends showed up we would drive to the University of Alabama campus and find a party. Best thing about my car was I didn't have to do anything except drive it and fill it up. My father took care of all the maintenance and my brother washed my car each week when he washed his GTO. I guess girls view cars alittle differently from boys!
