Philosophically the HOA concept seems sort of socialist, not at all in keeping with what I perceive as your normally free enterprise, individual freedom beliefs.
Socialist? Socialism is the government control of the means of production. Yet another word that no one understands. HOA Drs are, in almost every sense, not much different than zoning regulations. I suppose you oppose zoning regulations as well? As for normally free enterprise, individual freedoms, you make a personal, free choice to buy in an HOA and put your signature on a document saying you would abide by the DRs and other HOA rules. You had the freedom to sign or not; you chose to sign. If there is a problem in Ocean Pines it is that the DRs are not adequately enforced when it comes to things that do harm property values. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: no, of course not. That still doesn't change my opinion of HOA's. Philosophically the HOA concept seems sort of socialist, not at all in keeping with what I perceive as your normally free enterprise, individual freedom beliefs. If the committee suddenly didn't like the way you've painted your house and sent you a violation, how would you feel about rule by committee ? After all, a committee is nothing but a creature with eight heads, sixteen legs and no brain. |
