I dropped a driveshaft coming out of the Queen-Midtown Tunnel years ago. I had just put the car in first gear after paying the toll, heard a noise and the toll taker said, "I believe that was you". Seems the souped up Buick engine my brother and I had put in my '52 Ford convertible was a bit too husky for the universal joint. And before that, the transmission and before that the rear end. We learned a lot about cars from that Ford. Unfortunately, it spent more time in the driveway than on the road. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: A Hudson Hornet I had was the only car to break a universal joint, and leave the drive shaft dragging. Was a powerful car, but not as quick acceleration as Olds 88 in our family. |
