Why is the Board President counseling an employee (on June 20)about his perception that she should ”handle certain matters without escalating them up the chain”? if that’s his perception he should’ve taken his complaint to Viola and let him (as her supervisor) counsel her.
I think the issue in that regard involved a meeting with Ken Koroknay. Anyway, presumably Ken asked Colby to arrange a meeting with the GM. Apparently, when the day came the GM was unavailable and Perrone was asked to take his place. You can debate, I suppose, whether her setting up a meeting with the GM was appropriate or not. I have no idea why Ken wanted to meet with Viola, but he could have just called Viola. Perhaps it is not appropriate for OPA employees to be setting up meetings for association members with the GM. Then again, maybe the above is not at all what happened. Perhaps you can clarify. It is the supervisor’s job to council and educate his employees, not the board directors. Where is Viola in all of this? Why is the board president “dressing down” (Doug Park’s words) an employee? etc. I only know what was in the report and what Colby has said. I suspect the GM and/or the board might say this was all part of her volunteering to be in some sort of training to become GM. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Why is the Board President counseling an employee (on June 20)about his perception that she should ”handle certain matters without escalating them up the chain”? if that’s his perception he should’ve taken his complaint to Viola and let him (as her supervisor) counsel her. If the board had concerns about Colby setting up a Go Fund Me account for another employee, why did they not take this concern to her supervisor? Instead the report indicates that Perrone and Doug Parks were present when Colby was “educated” about the importance of first discussing this with her supervisor (Oct. 2020). It is the supervisor’s job to council and educate his employees, not the board directors. Where is Viola in all of this? Why is the board president “dressing down” (Doug Park’s words) an employee? if the board president’s actions “throughout this period were motivated solely by legitimate business reasons” then he has a responsibility to bring these concerns to her supervisor and her supervisor is responsible for counseling and educating the employee. This is how employee growth and development is fostered. This is how good managers work with their staff. If the general manager cannot manage his staff then the board needs to counsel the GM. The board president should NOT be stepping in and micromanaging the staff. Where in the world was Viola in all of this and why is he not being held accountable (along with Perrone for his actions) in the general deterioration of this situation with a valued employee? |
