If OPA allowed members to vote on referendums and everything else electronically their argument that each referendum vote could cost $30,000 would be moot.
As a follow-up. The only thing the board is required to do is hold an election each year. Referendums are only required for things like bylaws change or to get approval for some expensive project. I think the last referendum was about 10 years ago, for the Yacht Club. If the $1 million limit was in place there would have been a referendum for the police station and for the golf clubhouse. So, over the past 10 years, there may have been two or three more referendums. Let's say five, just to exaggerate. That would have set you back a cool $17.50 over 10 years. Methinks folks tend to go off the cliff with the board lemmings in a fit of exaggeration. Also, while th board can decide on its own to go to electronic voting, I believe certain mailings will still have to be made to conform with th bylaws and/or Maryland law. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: If OPA allowed members to vote on referendums and everything else electronically their argument that each referendum vote could cost $30,000 would be moot. It is time OPA modernized its communications systems. Online voting could easily be accomplished by a password-protected process. |
