I find very little in county code related to political signs other than no permit is needed. Can you provide a link to any other info than what I copied below?
Sign permits. All signs, except temporary freestanding signs, security signs, temporary real estate signs, temporary signs announcing the opening of a project, political and construction signs, signs announcing a public or quasi-public event, and historic and conservation signs, shall be deemed permanent signs. No permanent sign shall be erected, enlarged or altered without a permit from the Department. The act of changing only the copy of a sign shall not be considered an alteration. Applications for permits shall be submitted to the Department on forms obtainable from the Department. Each application shall be accompanied by drawings and written material showing the area, appearance and message of the sign, the method of illumination, the exact location and height of the proposed sign with regard to property lines, setbacks and structures, the method of support, attachment of such sign to the building if pertinent, and any required landscaping.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Reading your article about signs in OP with interest. I am not a lawyer, but I do know that the Worcester county code does contain regulations re signs, including political signs. It establishes standards, regulations for the size, location and use of signs and how and how long they may be displayed. These regs can be found in the WOR code at ZS1-324. There are separate requirements for permanent and for temporary signs. And, BTW, I am not sure that I accept the interpretation that OP may only regulate the signs pertaining to their own elections. But, again, I am not a lawyer. Yet I do know enough not to accept an attorney's opinion until after it has been challenged and rules on by a court and some precedent has been established. I believe that you said there is no case law? |
