For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: You are exactly right. I would add the white privilege when it comes to medical care as well. True story. My old neighbor in the Pines never called my house in Baltimore in the 15 years I owned my home until my son and his African American friends were staying at my home. He hunted down my number and called me to say there were people at my house. I asked if they were loud or doing something wrong. He replied no but they were black. I informed him that my son and his friends were all Meyerhoff Scholars at UMBC on their way to obtaining their PhDs and MD/PhDs. By the way: the Meyerhoff Program specifically addresses the importance of having diversity in the sciences. I was thrilled when he sold his home. Those that don't understand white privilege do not have friends of color. |
