Additional news on the Purnell story in the Md Coast Dispatch. Report titled: County Commissioner Explains Divisive Police Comments Click Here
Purnell is now saying she was referring to veterans " potential volatility of those displaying symptoms of PTSD" And she is attempting to tie that into the Jan 6th Capitol protests. Has anyone heard the idea of PTSD of veterans being tied into the Capitol protests?? Indeed I haven't heard that. Seems a stretch. Unconnected Purnell added that her statement was not an indictment of veterans but rather was tied to concerns about those who weren’t receiving adequate mental health services. This same Dispatch article quotes some objections raised by Worcester County Sheriff Matt Crisafulli. Along with others, such as statements from Chip Bertino and Jim Bunting, the sheriff says he was appalled by Purnell's comment. Here's part of what Crisafulli said: “They [veterans] are true everyday heroes who sacrifice their lives for the freedoms we all enjoy . . .The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office is honored to have 16 current personnel, totaling 231 years of military service to our nation, on staff.. . . These types of statements, toward law enforcement officers and our veterans, deteriorate the ongoing efforts of our law enforcement personnel, in all of our communities” Worcester County Sheriff Matt Crisafulli:
